Zanzibar Blue & Green Economy Transformation Fund

Deploying $65M to Establish Zanzibar as the Indian Ocean’s Seaweed Capital and Unlock $200M+ in Blue Economy Investment and Ocean Conservation

REASONS TO INVEST

Transform Zanzibar into the Indian Ocean’s leading seaweed economy by scaling production across 80+ coastal villages, to provide agricultural credit for 15,000+ seaweed farming households (80% women-led) while developing climate-resilient marine agriculture infrastructure that reduces post-harvest losses by 30%, improves value-addition through processing, and creates sustainable blue economy livelihoods for coastal communities. This investment capitalizes on the global seaweed market’s projected growth to $11.8 billion by 2030, positioning Zanzibar to capture significant market share beyond its current 0.4% while supporting Tanzania’s broader blue economy development strategy and women’s economic empowerment across the Indian Ocean region.
